CaliberBase Carry
Terms of Service
Effective September 20, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CaliberBase™ Carry (the "Service"), operated by CaliberBase ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Read this section first
The Service displays carry-reciprocity information, state-law summaries, place-restriction categories, and permit-expiration reminders. None of it is legal advice, none of it is guaranteed to be accurate or current, and none of it should be the basis for a decision to carry a firearm anywhere. Reciprocity between states changes through legislation, litigation, attorney-general opinions, and agreements between states, sometimes with little notice and sometimes with immediate effect. A reference table cannot capture the conditions, exceptions, and locality-specific rules that determine whether a particular permit is honored for a particular person in a particular place on a particular day.
Before you carry, transport, or store a firearm anywhere — and especially before you cross a state line while armed — verify the current law with the official authority in that jurisdiction and, where the answer matters, consult an attorney licensed there. Section 3 sets this out in full. It is restated here because it is the single most important term in this document.
2. What the Service is
CaliberBase Carry helps you keep a record of the carry permits and licenses you personally hold, store photographs of those permits, see when each one expires, and look up how your permits are treated across states. It is a personal recordkeeping and reference tool. It does not issue, renew, verify, validate, or register any permit, and it has no relationship with any issuing authority. A record in the Service is not a permit and has no legal effect.
The Service is free. There is nothing to buy inside CaliberBase Carry and no payment details are ever collected for it. We may introduce paid features in the future; if we do, the features you have today will not start costing money without notice and an opportunity to decline. Converting to CaliberBase Vault is a separate, optional product with its own terms — see Section 9.
3. Not legal advice
All state-law summaries, carry-reciprocity determinations, place-restriction categories, permit-renewal and training-requirement information, official-resource links, and similar informational content in the Service are provided for general reference only. They are not legal advice, do not create an attorney-client relationship, and are not a substitute for your own legal judgment or that of a qualified attorney.
We compile this information from public sources and review it periodically. The Service displays an "as of" date for its reciprocity data; that date tells you when we last reviewed it, not that the underlying law has not changed since. We do not warrant that any of it is complete, current, or correct for your circumstances, and we do not undertake to notify you when a law changes.
You are solely responsible for compliance with all federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial laws governing the possession, carrying, transport, and storage of firearms, including laws about specific locations such as schools, government buildings, posted private property, airports, and vehicles, and including the laws of any jurisdiction you travel through rather than only the one you are going to.
4. Eligibility and your responsibilities
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not verify age, so this is a term you agree to rather than a check we perform. You agree to provide accurate information about your own permits and to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You are responsible for everything done through your account.
5. Your account and your encryption keys
If your sign-up showed you a recovery code, your account is end-to-end encrypted. Your permit details — the permit name, number, issuing state, dates, the date of birth printed on the card, photographs, and any notes — are encrypted on your own device, using a key derived from your password, before they reach our servers. We store ciphertext. We cannot read those fields and we cannot decrypt them for you or for anyone else. The Permits screen in the app tells you which kind of account you have.
This has a consequence you must understand before relying on the Service: if you lose both your password and your recovery code, your permit records are permanently unrecoverable by anyone, including us. There is no password reset that preserves your data, because we do not hold the key. Your recovery code is issued once, at sign-up, and it is your only other way in. Keep it somewhere physical and safe.
Older accounts, created before we introduced end-to-end encryption, work differently. For those accounts each permit's issuing state and expiration date are stored unencrypted so the app can list and sort them, and the rest of the permit and its photographs are encrypted on our servers under a key we hold. Those accounts remain fully functional and can reset a password by email. For them, the statements above about our inability to read or recover your data do not apply.
In both cases, some information is necessarily readable by us in order to operate the Service. Our Privacy Policy lists exactly what.
6. Reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee
Permit reminders are notifications that the CaliberBase Carry iPhone app schedules on your own device. We do not send reminder emails, and the website only shows an "Expired" or "Soon" badge when you open it. A scheduled notification can fail to reach you for reasons outside our control: notification permission turned off, a Focus or Do Not Disturb schedule, the app deleted or never opened on a new device, or a date entered incorrectly in the first place.
Do not rely on the Service as your only method of tracking a renewal deadline. Missing a renewal is your responsibility and not ours.
7. Prohibited use
You may not use the Service to record permits that are not yours; to store content that is unlawful; to attempt to gain access to another account or to any part of our systems you are not authorized to reach; to probe, scan, or test the security of the Service except through a good-faith report to us; to scrape, bulk-extract, or redistribute our reciprocity or state-law data as a competing dataset or product; or to interfere with the Service's operation.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, its software, its interface, its brand, and its compiled reference data are ours and are protected by intellectual-property law. You keep all rights to the permit records and photographs you put into the Service; nothing here transfers ownership of your content to us. We claim no license to your content beyond what is technically required to store it and show it back to you — and for end-to-end encrypted accounts, we could not make use of it if we wanted to.
9. Converting to CaliberBase Vault
Converting is optional and requires an active CaliberBase Vault plan. If you convert, your permits and their photographs are migrated into that account, your Carry-side records are removed once the migration completes, and a new recovery kit is issued to you; your old recovery code stops working at that point. Conversion is one-way, and the CaliberBase Carry app can no longer sign in to the account afterwards. From then on your use of the product is governed by the CaliberBase Vault Terms of Service and its Privacy Policy, including their subscription and billing terms.
10. Availability and changes to the Service
We aim to keep the Service available but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may add, change, or discontinue features. If we discontinue the Service as a whole, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your records first. Export is available from Backup & Restore on the website; the iPhone app does not currently export.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE AND ALL INFORMATION IN IT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY RECIPROCITY, STATE-LAW, PLACE-RESTRICTION, OR RENEWAL INFORMATION IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR CURRENT.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CALIBERBASE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. THIS INCLUDES, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY ARREST, PROSECUTION, FINE, PENALTY, FORFEITURE, LOSS OF A PERMIT OR OF THE RIGHT TO POSSESS A FIREARM, OR OTHER LEGAL CONSEQUENCE ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON INFORMATION DISPLAYED BY THE SERVICE, AND ANY LOSS OF YOUR RECORDS RESULTING FROM A LOST PASSWORD AND RECOVERY CODE.
BECAUSE THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is so, the above applies to the fullest extent permitted, and nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CaliberBase and its operators from any claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law.
14. Termination and account deletion
You may delete your account at any time from inside the app or on the website. The account is disabled immediately and scheduled for permanent deletion after a fourteen-day cancellation window, during which an emailed link lets you change your mind. After that window your account, your permits and your permit photographs are permanently removed. Two things deliberately survive — your email address in our security audit log, and support conversations you have had with us; Section 11 of the Privacy Policy explains both. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will give notice in the Service or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept it. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, regardless of where you access or use the Service from.
17. Apple App Store
If you obtained the CaliberBase Carry app from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also governs your licence to use that app, and controls over these Terms to the extent the two conflict about that licence. These Terms continue to govern the Service itself.
